To send content for translation to Smartwords, make sure the following plugins are installed on your website:
You can download them from your wpml.org account. If you don’t have an account yet, you can create one by choosing either the WPML Multilingual CMS or Multilingual Agency plan. Contact us to get a discount on your subscription.
You will find Smartwords under WPML >Translation Management in the Translators tab. You will be able to access this tab only after registering your WPML license. The entire process takes just a few minutes.

To connect WPML to Smartwords, all you need is an authentication key (API token), which you can request from us.
Go to WPML > Translation Management and click on the Translators tab to select Smartwords as your translation service.
You will find Smartwords in the list of translation services – select it and click Activate.
Once the page is loaded, click the Authenticate button and enter your API token.
Congratulations! The Smartwords translation service is now connected to your WordPress site.
Now you are ready to send content for translation.
Go to WPML > Translation Management and open the Translation Dashboard tab. Select the content you want to translate from the list, carefully choosing the different types (posts, pages, portfolio items, etc.), then click Select a translation service under Translation method. Next, click Translate.
Note: If the list of content for each type spans multiple pages, we recommend going to Screen Options in the top right corner and adjusting the Pagination setting to display a sufficient number of items per page, so you can view them all at once.
Once your translation basket has been submitted, Smartwords will be immediately notified and will carry out a detailed analysis and provide a quote for the batch.
Smartwords will send you a detailed quote by email, along with the general terms and conditions and simple instructions on how to authorize the translation.
As soon as Smartwords has completed the translation work, the translated content will be ready to be delivered to your website.Â
Under WPML > Settings, we recommend selecting Draft as the document status in the Translated document options section. This way, when we deliver the translations, you will be able to review everything before publishing.Â
At any time, you can check the status of the translation work by clicking the Check status and get translations button at the top of the page.
Once you have received the translations of pages, posts, portfolio items, etc., it is time to proceed with the final touches.
This includes synchronizing the menu, and there may be additional interface elements that require translation (for example, certain widgets). We recommend having our team support you during this final stage.
If, for any reason, you want to cancel the translation of pages sent from WPML to Smartwords, you can manually delete or cancel the jobs from the Translation Jobs tab.
